Blended Polyester Resin with Excellent Leveling for Outdoor TGIC Powder Coatings
◎Introduction
N8081 and NH8505 are high and low acid value polyester resins respectively, which are used in polyester/TGIC powder coating systems. Using N8081 and NH8505 to make powder respectively and then dry mixing to make outdoor semi-gloss powder coating.
Since its introduction in the 1970s, powder coatings are 100% solid because they do not contain organic solvents. Compared with conventional coatings, powder coatings have the advantages of no pollution, energy and resource saving, the high mechanical strength of the coating film, and complete recycling of excess coatings, etc. Advantages, it is more and more widely used in the coating of household appliances, the automobile industry, office appliances, metal materials, outdoor buildings, and other shells. As customers' requirements for powder coatings are getting higher and higher, matte powder coatings are widely used in the industry as a variety with better decorative properties. At present, in the field of matting powder coatings, matting is mainly achieved by adding physical or chemical matting agents, and in order to obtain a lower gloss, it is often necessary to add a larger amount of matting agents. The addition of a large amount of matting agent greatly improves the matting performance of the powder coating but also reduces other properties of the coating.
The dry mixing matting method is a matting method that has emerged in recent years. When powder coatings with different curing speeds are mixed by the dry mixing method, the gloss of the resulting coating film will be significantly reduced, which will play a matting effect. In this way, the addition of matting agents is avoided, which not only reduces the cost but also solves the problem of poor coating leveling.
