93/7 Saturated TGIC Polyester Resins with Outstanding Anti-yellowing Properties
◎Introduction
HC7700 is saturated polyester resin, mainly used for polyester/TGIC powder coatings system.
Powder coating is an environmentally friendly coating, but its film formation requires high-temperature baking to melt the powder coating adhered to the substrate, and then cross-link to form a film. In the process of high-temperature baking and film formation, if the film-forming resin, additives, titanium dioxide, and other components are not good in heat resistance, they will usually deteriorate and produce yellow phase substances, which will lead to the appearance of yellowing of the coating film.
Powder coatings are composed of resins, curing agents, additives, pigments, and fillers. The spray construction of powder coating requires baking at a high temperature of about 200 degrees for 10-30 minutes. This makes the organic compounds in powder coating formulations susceptible to being oxidized by excessive temperature, producing yellowing oxides
Some amine curing agents and catalysts in powder coating formulations can also be oxidized and decomposed by high temperatures, which will also cause coating yellowing.
In general, the high-temperature yellowing of powder coatings is essentially due to the insufficient thermal oxidation resistance of organic compounds. Selecting titanium dioxide and defoamer with good heat resistance, optimizing the baking process, and improving the baking equipment are important methods to solve the high-temperature yellowing of powder coatings. Adding a suitable anti-yellowing agent to powder coating formulation is an effective means to improve its high-temperature yellowing. The selection of special resin varieties can give powder coatings better thermal oxygen yellowing properties.
